Product Description

YB-T202 ZDDP Zinc Butyl Octyl Primary Alkyl Dithiophosphate
Lubricant Antioxidant and corrosion inhibitor

ZDDP (Zinc Butyl Octyl Primary Alkyl Dithiophosphate) is an additive used in Lubricating Oils and greases. It is a type of anti-wear and antioxidant additive that helps protect metal surfaces from wear and corrosion.

ZDDP is composed of a mixture of zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) compounds, with butyl and octyl alkyl groups as the primary alkyl chains. The alkyl groups provide solubility in the oil, while the zinc and dithiophosphate groups provide the anti-wear and antioxidant properties.

When added to lubricating oils, ZDDP forms a protective film on metal surfaces, reducing friction and wear. It also reacts with metal surfaces to form a sacrificial layer that helps prevent corrosion. This makes ZDDP particularly effective in high-pressure and high-temperature applications, such as in engines and gearboxes.

However, ZDDP has been found to have some drawbacks. It can form deposits at high temperatures, which can affect engine performance and efficiency. It can also degrade catalytic converters in modern vehicles, as the phosphorus in ZDDP can poison the catalyst.

Due to these concerns, the use of ZDDP in lubricants has been reduced in recent years, especially in automotive applications. Alternative anti-wear additives, such as molybdenum and boron compounds, are being used to replace or reduce the reliance on ZDDP.
